Grand Anse Grand Anse is located at the western side of North Island. With 1480 steps it is the longest beach on the island. Coconut palms and Vouloutye bushes shelter this very fine sand beach. During breeding season Hawksbill Turtles lay their eggs in the soft sand, which is monitored and sign posted by the islands conservation staff to prevent tourists from stepping directly on the nest areas. Due to the nearby reef and seasonal sand drifting, large coral stone formations appear more or less. Many shells and round rocks are scattered along the beach. In the south, Grand Anse ends with a long stretch of fine sand. Several large granite rocks divide this beach from Bonnet Carré. The Sunset Bar serving cool drinks and cocktails is situated at the north side of Grand Anse. Silhouette Island can be seen on the horizon.
